Ikea Godmorgon Bathroom Vanity and Mirror: Our Review

We’ve been using our Ikea Godmorgon vanity and mirror for about three months now.

When we revealed our partially finished bathroom on our Instagram, we had a few questions about the Godmorgon vanity and mirrored cabinet.

Overall, we like them and we’re happy so far. I’m sharing five takeaways from our experience with our Ikea bathroom products.

Before we get started, here are the exact products we bought:

1. The sink is easy to clean

Because of the simple lines of both the sink and the faucet, the sink is incredibly easy to clean. Not many nooks and crannies to address.

A few wipes with a cloth and you’re done. The drain plug is also simple to remove and clean.

2. We added legs and a support in the middle

Thankfully, my research led me to this review from Yellow Brick Home. Although Kim and Scott had good things to say about their Ikea Godmorgon vanity, after a few months, theirs started to sag in the middle.

With the advice of Yellow Brick Home, I purchased legs from Pretty Pegs for our vanity. Although the Godmorgon is a floating-style vanity, I wanted it to look like a freestanding vanity. We purchased three legs: one for each front corner and a third to support the weight of the sink in the middle

I chose the largest matte black metal legs I could find. I purchased the matte black Greta legs in 8.3 (210) height.

3. We changed the drawer pulls

The Ikea fronts come with huge plastic edge pulls. I knew I wasn’t going to use them. After installing the vanity I felt that a simple handle pull would be more ergonomic for us. We chose these matte black bar pulls from CB2 in the 8” style and I really like them.

4. Tons of storage, but with drawbacks

The drawers are spacious, but they are super deep. Ikea sells plastic organizers specifically for Godmorgon drawers. They help compartmentalize the space, but they don’t fit perfectly. However, we are using customized drawer fronts, so I can’t dock points for that.

If you are considering the Godmorgon vanity and don’t want to buy the plastic organizers, you may need to come up with a custom organization solution.

The mirror is massive and also has tons of storage. It is also very tall, so it might not work well for shorter people or bathrooms for children.

I love the multi-mirrored surface. It shows every little fingerprint and smudge, but it’s easily cleaned with a damp cloth (no cleaner required!).

Bottom line: this storage unit has tons of space, but if a lack of compartments and fingerprints on glass drive you crazy, this might not be the vanity for you.

5. We changed out the Ikea fronts for Semihandmade walnut veneer fronts

Originally I wanted to source a wood buffet or dresser and convert it into a freestanding vanity. Unfortunately, after months of searching, we came up empty-handed. Everything was either too expensive, in terrible condition, too big, or too small.

I had dreams of a centerpiece sink. I was bummed when we couldn’t find what I wanted. I was extra bummed when I realized any wood vanity that appealed to me was way out of our budget.

About a year into the bathroom planning process, I went back to square one. I Googled “bathroom vanity ideas.” This New York Times article popped up. They recommended a bunch of vanities that only rich people can probably afford. At the end of the list, they FINALLY recommended something that millennials can afford: the Ikea Godmorgon vanity.

The only problem: it wasn’t the wood vanity I had envisioned. After a bit of Googling and Pinterest searching … boom! There was Semihandmade. I saw their walnut fronts, fell in love, signed up for their emails, caught their 20% off Labor Day sale, and the rest is history.

Although Ikea wasn’t our first choice, we’re super happy with the Godmorgon line products we purchased! Do you have any Ikea products in your home that you love? Are you thinking about the Godmorgon line for your home? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Are you still happy with the ikea cabinet and custom walnut front? Are they durable after a few years of use? Thank you!!!

    • Hi Ann! Thanks for stopping by! We installed these in June/July 2019 so we’re still in our first year of having this sink, cabinet, and fronts. But I have zero complaints. Because we added a leg to support the vanity, there has been no sagging. The walnut fronts have held up well, too. No damage or wear that I can see. The sink and mirror still clean up super easy with a damp rag. On my experience so far, I would still recommend everything!

  2. We renovated our master bath three years ago, using the Godmorgan vanity with Semihandmade fronts in teak. Absolutely love the vanity and how Semihandmade makes sure that the grain of the wood flows through. No regrets whatsoever.

    • I agree — Semihandmade does a great job! No regrets with our purchase here, either. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Hello my name is Alli,

I am all new to your Blog and really really like it. The info you shared has been very helpful so thank you.

I am followed your advice and looked into the Greta legs in black matte and brass gold but I am having a hard time finding the size that you recommended which is 8.3 (210) height. Is there a possibility that they are out?I was only able to order the legs both tones in 170 mm. Since you already have installed the vanity, do you think that the height I got will raise the vanity high enough?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

  4. I’ve heard the plumbing is really hard to install with this vanity. Did you find that? Could I possibly see a picture of your plumbing in the drawer?

  5. I usually only read blogs but had to contribute to this. Over the past 10 years I have used Godmorgan in 4 different bathroom remodels. The most recent this year ( 2022). Agreed that fingerprints are an issue with the cabinets but a daily quick wipe is a small trade off for the extensive storage. The plumbing is brilliant. It allows a full top drawer. A caveat, have a plumber install the plumbing. I love the vanities and they have held up well over the years. I’m about to start another remodel and although I wanted to try a " higher end" cabinet have been looking for a vanity. I keep coming back to Godmorgan. I didn’t know about semihomemade then, but think I’ll look into it this time. Also I didn’t use legs and the vanities are fine.
