Living Room Rug Refresh featuring The Knotted Fox

I haven’t done much of an update on our living room since November 2017. Wait … should I post more often? Don’t answer that.

After quite a bit of work and a lot of other projects, I’m happy to give a quick update. But first: a satisfying before & after (September 2017 vs. November 2019):

After searching for months, I finally found the right area rug for the sitting space in our living room. This has taken some trial and error as I’ve explored our style and what does (and does not) work in our home.

What wasn’t working? Our super fun pom-pom goat hair rug (which you can see here) from Revival Rugs. I still love this rug! But our home has a lot of old house charm, and this modern boho rug just wasn’t working. Don’t worry, though – I have plans for it.

Persian Rug from The Knotted Fox

One of my Instagram friends, Katie (@housenumber69), shared an antique rug on her feed from the The Knotted Fox:

The Knotted Fox carries an impeccably curated collection of antique rugs and is based in Buffalo, New York. I’m a sucker for both antique rugs as well as women-run/local/small businesses, so I followed immediately.

The next day, The Knotted Fox shared the following rug on Instagram. My jaw DROPPED.

It was the perfect size. It had all the traditional red, cream, and inky blue/black colors of a traditional Persian rug. It also had just the right amount of funkiness (you know, funky colors like green and orange and designs like those diamond-like “S”, zigzags, and critters) to satisfy my need for, well, something funky.

The colors! The critters! The medallions! The FUNK!

Only problem: I had not planned for this. I didn’t have this worked into our budget at all!

I immediately called it a loss. There was NO WAY I was going to be able to scoop up this rug in time. I even shared the photo on my Instagram stories, begging someone else to buy it so I couldn’t.

I went to The Knotted Fox’s Etsy store, favorited the rug, and waited to be disappointed when someone else inevitably bought it.

Fast forward to the beginning of this month. The rug was still available. I was still obsessed with it.

So I bought it.

It really ties the room together. No, seriously. It does.

And now it’s in my living room.

Please go check out The Knotted Fox on Instagram and on Etsy. Give Katie a follow, too, while you’re at it. You won’t be disappointed.

Yes, that is a catnip mouse on the coffee table. Any questions?
